How much of your free-agent budget is this player actually worth? Same philosophy as the trade calculator: a deterministic formula you can read, not a vibe.
The formula
bid = remaining budget × base% × need × urgency, shown as a ±20% range. Base% comes from the player's current redraft trade value — the same 0–10,000 scale the whole site runs on:
Need multiplies by 1.3 if he fills a starting hole, 1 for a depth upgrade, 0.7 for a speculative stash. Urgency scales from 1.0 in week 1 up to ~1.5 in the final week, because unspent FAAB expires worthless — the budget you're "saving" in November has almost no games left to help you win.
What it deliberately ignores: your league's bidding culture (some rooms chronically overbid — add 20% in those) and desperation blocking (bidding to keep a player from a rival, which is a strategy call, not math).
